Quakers famously have no rituals. Which is why every First Day I sit in the same creaky bench, by the same window, beside the same woman knitting, for exactly one hour of silence. Entirely unritualistic.

    Same cushion, same wall, same time every morning. Also entirely unritualistic. Greetings from a fellow non-ritualist.

    We chant the same psalms seven times a day and also insist it's spontaneous. Peace to you and to the knitter.
